If you weren’t aware, Walt Disney Company held an Investor Day presentation on December 11th, 2020. They announced a bunch of Star Wars (and Indiana Jones) news. But what I want to cover in this post is the Marvel Studios announcements. The sheer number of TV shows and movies they have in the works right now is staggering.
Most of these are in release order but much of it is subject to change because it’s still very early on in many of these productions.
WandaVision – Disney+ on January 15, 2021. This one I’m pretty hyped for and thus have avoided almost all the trailers. Aside from Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany bringing the characters of Scarlet Witch and the Vision to life in spectacular fashion since Avengers: Age of Ultron, this storyline seems to be based on exactly what I had hoped. Wanda is still reeling from the loss of her love, the Vision (and presumably, her brother too). The show is styled after various sitcoms throughout the decades, almost as if Wanda is binging old television shows while depressed and grieving (relatable). However, due to her immense, reality-altering abilities, it’s conceivable that the shows aren’t just TV after all. Exactly one month until this series drops on Disney+ and I’m all in.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness – In theaters March 25, 2022. I’m still bummed that Scott Derrickson, the director of the first Doctor Strange movie, was replaced by Sam Raimi due to scheduling and creative differences with the studio. I thought Derrickson did a fantastic job on the first movie and was excited to see where he was going to go in the sequel. I’m a little lukewarm on Raimi (sorry Evil Dead fans!) so we’ll have to wait and see how he handles the Sorcerer Supreme.

Alright, here’s another one I’m hyped for and actually was going to avoid trailers of but as I was typing this, I started up the video and had to watch it through to the end. It looks solid. Is it March yet?
Loki – Disney+. We don’t have a release date for the Loki series but I know I’m all in whenever it gets here. Tom Hiddleston is just a delight to watch.
What If…? – Disney+ Summer 2021. “What If” comics + Original MCU cast = Gimme this cartoon now!
Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings – July 9, 2021. I have a lot of curiosity around this movie. I’m not very familiar with Shang-Chi in the comics but reportedly, this movie will be the real appearance of the real Mandarin. And yes, I know I just used “real” twice. I’m hoping the Mandarin is really real.
Ms. Marvel – Disney+ in late 2021. This is another Disney+ series that looks interesting. It’s gonna be neat to see how they adapt her unique powers to the small screen.
Captain Marvel 2 – November 11, 2022. This one will be just days before my birthday! I didn’t particularly care for the directors of the first Captain Marvel film so I’m happy to see they’ve tapped the director of next year’s Candyman remake, Nia DaCosta. Hopefully we get some more Skrull goodness.
Hawkeye – Disney+ in late 2021. We don’t know much about this show (we’ve actually seen more for Ms. Marvel so far) but I love Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop seems like fantastic casting.
She-Hulk Series Coming to Disney+. We know even less about the She-Hulk series coming. I would wager late 2022 or 2023. I’m just grateful they’ve got Mark Ruffalo coming back as Bruce Banner.
Moon Knight Disney+ Series. Another series we know almost nothing about. However, Marc Spector is an intriguing character in the comics so it should be interesting to see how he’s translated to TV.
Secret Invasion – Disney+ Series. I’m really surprised this is going to be a series as I assumed the movies would be addressing this particular comic storyline. Who knows, maybe they’ll be dropping skrulls into the movies and lead up to this series.
Ironheart – Disney+ Series. Another announced Marvel series with almost no additional information and to be honest, I’m not totally familiar with the character in the comics. This is a wait and see.
Armor Wars – Disney+. Based off of a classic Iron Man storyline. This could be fun. I love that they’re giving Don Cheadle his own show.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special/Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – 2022/2023. It’ll be nice to finally have James Gunn back in charge of the Guardians. It feels like it’s been forever.
I Am Groot – Disney+. I’m not sure why a bunch of Groot shorts were necessary but these could be fun, especially if they’re similar to Pixar’s shorts before each movie.
Thor: Love and Thunder – May 6, 2022. This is only about a year and a half away! Plus, Christian Bale is confirmed as the Big Bad? Yes, please!
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. What’s a quantumania? Who knows! But this movie’s going to have Kang the Conqueror! I always imagined Kang going up against the MCU Avengers but maybe Ant-Man and the Wasp (and Stature) are enough to take him down. Also, I love me some Michael Peña.
Black Panther 2 – July 9, 2022. We’re getting Thor four AND Black Panther 2 in the same summer. We’re not worthy!
Fantastic Four. I’ve never been the biggest Fantastic Four fan but I am excited to see Marvel’s first family done by Marvel Studios themselves. And to have Jon Watts (the director of Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: Homecoming) at the helm should be a real treat. This movie can’t get here soon enough.
And that is all the news that’s fit to print (or post). I’ll probably do a rundown of the Star Wars shows and movies tomorrow. Stay tuned!
